William morris (1834-1896) was an artist, designer, poet, activist, and a founder of the arts and crafts movement, best known for intricate floral wallpaper designs. Cray is one of seven in a design series named for tributaries of the river thames. With its strong diagonal bias and fantastical scrolling chrysanthemums and foliage, cray is morris’ most expensive and complex pattern, requiring 34 blocks to create. our design features a detail from this remarkable work.
